Buying aluminum from China

The commercial half of an order: what we need to quote, how MOQ and lead time really work, which documents travel with the goods, and how packing and payment are agreed before anything is produced.

What to send for a quotation

Grade and temper, sizes (thickness, OD, wall, length), quantity, the application or a drawing, the destination port and the Incoterm you want. A drawing or cutting list can go straight to our nesting team and comes back as a material take-off.

Minimum order quantity

Stock and cut-to-size items start from a single piece or sheet, so samples and one-off parts are normal business. Where an item has to be rolled or cast to order, the minimum follows the grade and size and is confirmed in the quotation rather than guessed at.

Lead time

Regular stock and cut-to-size material usually ships within 3–7 days. CNC parts run 1–3 weeks after first-article approval. Mill runs follow the rolling schedule, and the firm date is written into the order confirmation.

Documents you receive

A mill test certificate covering chemistry and mechanical properties, dimensional and visual inspection records, a packing list and shipping marks. Third-party inspection such as SGS or BV can be arranged in advance.

Packing for sea freight

Sheet is filmed or interleaved on crates and pallets, tube and bar are bundled with moisture protection, and every package carries the shipping marks. Crating is reinforced to the destination country's handling requirements.

Payment terms

Quotations can be issued EXW, FOB or CIF. Payment terms are agreed when the order is confirmed; regular export orders run on telegraphic transfer (T/T) or a letter of credit (L/C).

Quality control before shipment

Machined parts are held from ±0.02 mm to drawing and run through first-article approval before batch production. Material is checked by lot for dimensions, appearance and hardness, and inspection records are issued with the goods.

Quotation checklist

Quotation checklist

  • Grade and temper, for example 6061-T6 or 6082-T6
  • Sizes: thickness, OD, wall thickness, length
  • Quantity per size, and whether stock or mill run
  • Drawing, cutting list or sample part, if the part is machined
  • Destination port and Incoterm: EXW, FOB or CIF
  • Any certificate, inspection or packing requirement

Everything listed here is regular civil-use aluminium. Under item 1C202 of the Chinese dual-use export control list, an aluminium alloy is controlled when it is capable of an ultimate tensile strength of 460 MPa or more at 20 °C and is tube or cylindrical solid bar (including forgings) with an outside diameter greater than 75 mm. The technical note is explicit that "capable of" covers the alloy both before and after heat treatment, so shipping in the annealed temper does not move it out of scope. We do not quote such items through this website.
